Parent-Toddler March 4-12, 2019

Dear Families,

It has been a busy two weeks with the toddlers! Last week each child made their own bag of colored rice. When we were done, we mixed them all together to create rainbow rice. The children really enjoyed scooping, pouring, stirring, feeling, and smelling the rice. We added plastic eggs the following week and the children listened to the sound the rice made in the eggs when shook. They also had fun opening the eggs, emptying the rice, and refilling them.

We read a book about butterflies this week, which prompted us to make and decorate our own paper butterflies, which we hung in our classroom. We also provided stabile bases so that the  children could create 3D art.  (Stabiles are freestanding abstract sculptures made of wire and wood.) Several of the children chose to work with this new medium. They used hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills to thread buttons, sequins, pom poms, Nuudles, and pipe cleaners onto the thin wires.

Outside, the children continue to enjoy riding in the wagon, playing in the sandpit, and going down the slide in new and creative ways. Last week we watched a big truck pull up to the school for a delivery. The children couldn’t wait to see what the delivery man was going to unload. They made some predictions about what would be delivered: ice cream, balloons, popsicles, and teddy bears were some of the guesses. Unfortunately, the delivery included paper towels, tissue, and toilet paper, which are necessary, but not near as exciting!

Sincerely,

Rebecca and Kim
