Week Four: Parent Toddler Class

Hi Parents of Toddlers!

Welcome Alice’s new baby sister!

This past week the Toddlers worked on their gross motor skills in the Main Yard riding trikes, pushing and pulling each other in the wagon and playing ball.  They also spent a lot of time in the sandbox digging, filling and dumping sand.  Impromptu dance parties and singing, as well as, “cooking” with playdough and playing in the dramatic play area are some of the indoor activities they are enjoying.

In our parent discussion group we looked at the TCS policies and philosophies around holidays with young children, especially Halloween.  It is important at this time of year that we make extra effort to see the world through the children’s eyes as many parts of Halloween can be scary, confusing and/or overwhelming.  The best practice is to let the child take the lead and follow their interest and enthusiasm. We also looked at an article by Patty Wipfler addressing the hows and whys of tantrums.  I have really enjoyed our discussions around Staylistening with children in their big feelings.
