From the Directors: Playground Remodel Starts in June!
By Sarah O’Dell, Executive Director and Nicole Shadduck, Education Director
THANK YOU to our generous supporters! You and our future philanthropists raised $10,062 during Idaho Gives week. We will be using the funds in support of both our tuition assistance fund and our playground remodel. There is one more opportunity to contribute to our tuition assistance fund beginning on May 17th! More information is on page 2.
We will begin preparing the garden yard for the remodel during the week of May 31st. Toys will be moved, materials stored and the Older Primes class will form a block ‘brigade’ to move the set of Hollow Blocks to the main yard for the summer months. If your family is interested in helping move the garden boxes from the garden yard to their temporary home on the main yard, let us know. We could use some help. Many, many years ago, our first families helped build our play yards and you are invited to be the next generation of hands-on helpers! Please email Nicole or Sarah if you would like to help.
On June 7th, the first day of summer programs, the remodel begins! Some of the favorite elements of our current garden yard will remain including the hollow block stage and the much loved monkey bars. We will be adding a play boat! (We had one for years on an older version of our play yards. It’s time again for our children to sail on their imaginary seas.) In addition to the play boat, we will add willow pods and tunnels. We, the grown-ups J, are particularly excited about the new and improved storage systems and the water pump and stream that will enhance our mud kitchen.
Once the work on the garden yard has been completed, work will commence on the main and side yards. Thank you for your support and continued donations (and patience) as we revitalize our yards!
