Parent-Toddler April 8-16, 2019

Hello Families,

It has been a wet and rainy couple of weeks, but that didn’t stop the children from enjoying Outside Time! The moisture adds a new dimension to outdoor play as children mold with wet sand, dig trenches in the sand pit to create rivers and lakes, stomp in puddles, and scoop water with shovels.  Children have been looking under rocks for worms, trying to climb the tree, and collecting mud in buckets. We were very excited to notice the buds on the tulips along the outside of the Side Yard.

Inside Time has been spent finger-painting, making new orange play dough, using the new puzzles, playing sequence games, cooking and serving food in the kitchen, building with train tracks, decorating empty boxes, making Nuudle art, and mixing paint at the easel (did you know that yellow and purple make brown?).

The children found the sensory table very exciting as it was filled with plastic grass and plastic eggs that contained classroom toys. Children used their fine motor skills to figure out how to open and close the eggs. They practiced using the tongs to pick up the eggs, toys, and grass. They used their spatial skills to determine what size toy would fit in each egg. The following week, we replaced the grass with rainbow rice and the children enjoyed making rice “shakers.”
