State of the School
October 2024
Each year, The Children’s School holds its Annual Board of Directors Meeting, inviting families, teachers, and the community to participate. During this meeting, I traditionally present the “State of the School” address and outline our goals for the coming year.
State of the School Highlights
100% Lead Teacher Retention
We achieved complete retention of our lead teaching staff from the 2023-24 school year. This is a tremendous accomplishment, especially in an industry often marked by high turnover and, in recent years, low job satisfaction. We are proud to retain a committed and dedicated teaching team.
A Place for Families
100% of parent survey respondents said “I feel respected by the staff and connected to other families. I have a positive sense of community at the school.”
Enrollment Growth
After a downturn last year, we are now nearly fully enrolled. We have a class of ten 18-24-month-olds, 12 in our two-year-old class, 13 in our three-year-old class, and a robust 28 four- and five-year-olds across two classes. Additionally, we have 22 part-time students across two classes.
Financial Stability
We are financially sound, allowing us to continue providing high-quality care without using our reserve funds. Over the past four years, we have significantly reduced our debt, and earned interest on our investments.
24-25 Program Improvement Goals
TCS administered a family survey at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. Survey results and anecdotal observations were discussed with the Board of Directors. The TCS staff met to discuss survey results and develop areas of Program Improvement. The information gathered from the families, board, faculty and administration was synthesized to create the Program Improvement Plan to share with the TCS community.
- Community Building—continued emphasis on relationship building between adults within our community.
- Communication with families—we have focused on communication about individual children over the past years and have refined our communication about classroom news. This year, the focus will be enhancing communication about whole school systems, such as conferences, enrollment and group transitions.
- School safety—in light of national events and parent questions, we will review our school safety protocols to assure that we continue to provide a safe, healthy environment for children and teachers.
